Egypt

Earlier this year, we took a trip to Egypt with a cruise down the Nile River. To be honest, this was not high on my list, but it was well worth it. We were a bit hesitant going to this part of the world with all that is going on in the region. That is one reason why we booked with Uniworld, which is a very high end supplier.

We took advantage of American Airlines frequent flyer points on their partner airline, Qatar Airways. I found a great deal for their Q suite product. It’s a great business class option which made sense for us for this very long flight. After 14 hours from Atlanta, we arrived in Doha, where we changed planes and connected onto Cairo.

Once in Cairo, we checked into the Four Seasons Hotel. After two days of touring in Cairo we boarded a flight to Luxor. It was here that we went on board the ship where we would spend the next nine days.

I won’t bore you with the details, but suffice it to say that we saw many ruins. In fact, they kind of all started looking alike! Some highlights were the Valley of the Kings and King Tut’s Tomb.

The Uniworld ship was very comfortable and the crew was fantastic. We met people from all over the world and had a great time on board. The food was great, and the amenities were top-notch.

Once back in Cairo, we toured the pyramids, the sphinx and the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum.

All in all, it was a great trip and I can put a checkmark by Egypt! Touring this country is not for the faint of heart. It’s hot and dusty and the vendors are relentless. Don’t let that stop you from visiting this corner of the world.

On to The Netherlands where we spent 3 months. What a contrast.
