Over the years I have visited Los Angeles many times but always on some form of business. Because of that, there wasn't always time to enjoy some of the many things the City of Angels has to offer.
That changed this week when I spent two action packed days in LA. Let me tell you a little about what I did.
To start, we took a guided hike all the way up to the Hollywood sign. The 5 mile round trip excursion took place on a very wide and dusty path that winds uphill in Griffith Park. We meandered up and up past some beautiful home precariously perched in the Hollywood Hills. Each had a spectacular view of Los Angeles and the surrounding environs.
You may be interested in knowing that the Hollywood Sign was built in 1921 and originally said "Hollywoodland". It was only intended to be be in place for 18 months while promoting a nearby real estate development. 100 years later, it still stands today to symbolize the entertainment capital of the world.
TripMonkee Tip: The round trip hike took about 3 hours so make sure you bring a water bottle. You should also know there are no facilities along the way!
By now, we worked up a healthy appetite and wanted to try some of the great ethnic foods for which the city is known. Of course, we headed to Korea Town where we visited Park BBQ. We had a traditional Korean meal where the meats, and some vegetables where cooked right at the table. In addition, about 25 small bowls were placed on the tables with a variety of authentic Korean fare. It was quite a show and whirlwind of activity.
Because our accommodations were in Beautiful Downtown Burbank, we had easy access to The Warner Brothers Studios. We took the Studio Tour which turned out to be very interesting. Driven around in over-sized golf carts, we were able to see the "back lot" where many of the best known movies and television shows are shot. We saw the sets of FRIENDS and of course, had to sit on the infamous couch in front of the fountain seen in the opening credits. It was a hub of activity but there were no star sightings. Maybe next time!
Before leaving, we went to one of the original Big Boy restaurants located in Burbank for a traditional milk shake. It did not disappoint.
We only scratched surface of what there is to see and do, but our 24 hours in Southern California was action packed and left me wanting to go back for more. Perhaps I will be discovered and start a new career on the big screen! I'm ready for my close-up!
